The prototype for my model railroad is the Rio Grande Southern in Colorado in autumn 1942. The first focus is on the spectacular mountainous route from Matterhorn (as Swiss I have to model ist ;-) ) over the Highline, Ophir, Butterfly trestle & mill and Vance junction to Telluride, the second focus is Dolores and the Logging town of McPhee and the third Durango as connection to the "outer world" (means Denver & Rio Grande Western) with a big yard (altough smaller than the real one). While the RGS part of the railroad is as prototypical as possible, on the Montezuma Lumber/Mc Phee I will use some additional logging engines (like Shays) that never run there (modellers freedom). Nevertheless the big sawmill in McPhee and other buildings are based on the real buildings.

The modell railroad is Sn3 gauge which is 3-feet US narrow gauge in S Scale. Perhaps a kind of exotic scale for most of people, but for me the perfect size, the size of H0 with the detailling of 0-scale.

Track plan

Cause space is  always the limit I decided to build the layout on two decks. Below you find the current draft of the trackplan.
